Pulp and Paper Solutions PDF Print E-mail

With increasing globalization, pulp and paper manufactures must improve product quality, production efficiency, and flexibility to stay competitive. Our applications help companies reduce downtime with communication links between remote locations as well as comply with environmental regulations using enhanced performance and reporting features.

Paper Machine Services

Object Technologies CEM, Inc. can provide a wide variety of services for your paper machine control system (DCS). We have over 20 years experience in paper machine optimization. This includes cross direction and machine direction tuning, beam modeling calculations, multiple frequency actuator control tuning, wave model setup and other advanced control schemes. We specialize in Honeywell Measurex control system services.

  • Headbox alignment for precise control after a major shutdown or machine modification is always required for accurate mapping of actuators to control zones in the process control system. This services is always included in our optimization packages.
  • Paper machine optimization
  • CDcontrol optimization
  • CD cabinet replacement

Pulp Related Services

  • Batch and continuous digester, process trouble shooting and control tuning
  • Waste Fiber Plant, process trouble shooting and control tuning
  • De-Inking plant, process trouble shooting and control tuning

Cross Direction Weight Optimization

The following items will be determined to provide the best possible performance of a CD weight control.

  • Headbox to scanner alignment.
  • Mini-slice profile mapping to CD actuator zone verification. (Profile transformation)
  • Machine direction profile filtering.
  • Weight bump response modeling.
  • Optimal machine direction tuning numbers determined from actual bump tests.
  • Determination of cross coupling and spatial filtering requirements to provide optimal controls without actuator picketing.
  • Wave modeling on a Honeywell Measurex MxOpen control system.

Cross Direction Moisture Optimization

The following items will be determined to provide the best possible performance of a CD moisture control.

  • CD moisture actuator to scanner alignment.
  • Mini-slice profile mapping to CD actuator zone verification. (Profile transformation)
  • Machine direction profile filtering.
  • Moisture bump response modeling.
  • Optimal machine direction tuning numbers determined from actual bump tests.
  • Determination of proper spatial filtering requirements to provide control performance.
  • For more than one CD moisture control the proper frequency components have to be determined for each control. Typically a steam box operates on a low frequency profile and a spray bar operates on a high frequency profile to deliver the highest performance possible without cross control coupling problems. These frequency components are determined by modeling the bump responses of each CD control actuator.
  • Machine Direction Control Optimization

Machine Direction Moisture Optimization

The following items will be determined to provide the best possible performance of a MD control.

  • Calibration and limit verification of all PID and supervisory loops involved.
  • Process response modeling and determination of tuning numbers.
  • Determination of decoupling constants for weight and moisture controls.
  • Verification of proper execution of control algorithms.
  • All process models and tuning calculations documented.
